From Inspiration to Publication: Common Issues Facing Independent Authors

Tricia Chin is an attorney-at-law from 2005 to present. Her areas of specialisation include procurement, tax, finance, construction. She started writing short stories during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and has independently published four books since 2021.  Her writing is based on the folklore of Trinidad and Tobago, and she places her characters in local settings across Trinidad and during time periods that vary from the 1800s to present day. Some of her works include, For the Dead, Tabanca and Other Stories and Parang the Wrong House.

Keir Alekseii

Finding the Right Match: On Being A Literary Agent

Keir Alekseii is a literary agent with Azantian Literary Agency.
She is an educator and anti-GBV activist born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago, a twin island country in the West Indies. Keir is a writer, gamer, lover of folklore, and former research scientist. As a neurodivergent, queer person of color, Keir is invested in discovering engaging work with similar representation, and passionate about creating space for voices not often recognized. They are especially interested in stories from BIPOC who are born and raised in the Global South.
Keir still lives in T&T with their partner and six rambunctious felines.

Kevin Jared Hosein

Finding the Right Match: An Author's POV on Working With A Literary Agent 

Kevin Jared Hosein is the author, most recently, of Hungry Ghosts, winner of the 2024 OCM Bocas Prize for Fiction and the Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction. It had also been longlisted for the Dylan Thomas Prize. He is a two-time winner of the Commonwealth Short Story Prize.  His previous novels include The Repenters and The Beast of Kukuyo. He has been published in numerous anthologies and outlets, including Esquire, Wasafiri, Lightspeed, Granta, BBC Radio 4 and Perspective. He lives in Trinidad and Tobago.

Taking Your Book Across Borders: An International Book Festival Experience

Ryan Bachoo is an award-winning journalist who published his first novel in January 2025 titled, An Unending Search. His passion for West Indian literature led him to write his Caribbean fiction focusing on the themes of migration, displacement, racism, classism, and escapism. His journalism career has glittered with accolades from award-winning works in documentary storytelling to climate change. Bachoo has emerged as one of the Caribbean's most important and significant storytellers of our time.
